VAASTU SHASTRA – LIVING IN HARMONY WITH NATURE

Some people associate Vaastu Shastra with religion. But vaastu Shastra is actually a science.
In the age when it was formulated, the society was largely illiterate, the illiteracy generating a fear of the unknown.
But our ancestors were intelligent. When they saw that something affected them they immediately attached it with a superstition and discouraged the others from doing so for the fear of getting affected.
Science was beyond the realm of their understanding; while religion was omnipresent.
Since ancient times Nature has served Man, being the source of his life.
For, thousands of year’s people lived in harmony with the environment and they were benefitted by the riches that nature had to offer them.
But with the development of civilization man started to live in disharmony with nature.
The by-products of man’s industrial activity pollute the air we breathe, the water we drink and the land upon which we grow our food grains and vegetables.
Every year industries around the world pollute the atmosphere with about 1000 million tons of dust and other harmful substances. Many cities suffer from haze/smog.
Singapore is not exempted from the effects of haze which we face every year.
Huge forest lands are cut and burnt to make way for civilization, the disappearance of these forests upsets the oxygen balance due to which some rare species of animals, birds, fish and plants disappear forever. A number of rivers and lakes have dried up or been badly polluted. Ground water levels have been affected. Ground water has been polluted. When coal and petroleum are burned, they release certain harmful gases into the air. These gases combine with the oxygen and water in the air. When the water in the air comes down as rain, sleet, hail, or snow, it carries with it these gases. This is known as acid rain. Acid rain is very damaging to all life forms.
Man has continually done damage to mother nature, who has gifted him in abundance. Man has tampered with nature and now nature is furious with man. Hence there are so many natural calamities happening all over the world.
Vaastu shastra / feng shui preaches nothing but living in harmony with nature.
The ancient text of Vaastu Shastra mentions various Gods from Hindu mythology fixing their locations on the site and prescribing the offerings to be made to them. It was simpler for the ancient Vaastu experts to spread the concepts of the Vaastu Shastra through the intricate network of religion and superstition.
I’d put it like this, Ancient people realized that; it works better to swim with the current than against the current.
Unfortunately as time passed by, only the superstitions filtered down the generations, while the actual theory eluded the world.
For example – According to Vaastu; One should not sleep with the head facing the North
Scientifically, this was done with the idea of preventing cardiovascular diseases. Our ancestors probably knew about the relation between Earth's magnetic field and the human body's field (bio magnetism).

They probably made this rule of sleeping with your head in the South because of the harmful effects related to blood pressure and other diseases that asymmetry with the Earth's magnetic field would create.
However, today we only get to hear that 'sleeping with one's head in the north is inviting death'.

However, God fearing you may be, one must not feel threatened by Vaastu Shastra, because it is a science. Science does not condemn God, or disprove its identity but it does not accept it.
Somehow over the years, the knowledge underlying traditional rituals became more and more esoteric.
The only thing that got propagated was the rule; not the reasoning. Now man has started delving into the past to look for solutions. He wants peace, freedom from disease and lead a longer and fruitful life.
Living in harmony with nature could probably help find a lot of answers to our problems if we started studying these in conjunction with our present times.
We can incorporate the ones that are logical and leave the ones that are redundant due to societal evolutions.
Apply your own judgement and trust your gut feel when you buy a house. You can always incorporate principles of  Vaastu in your home.

CONCLUSION-: VAASTU SHASTRA IS LIVING IN HARMONY WITH NATURE.
