CALL FOR HDB TO GO BACK TO BASICS
Mr Lim Wee Kiak, Member of Parliament for Nee Soon, has told the parliament that prices of HDB flats have risen, and urged the HDB to go “back to basics”.
He wants the government to ensure that homeownership is the HDB’s top priority and offered his own suggestions as well.
Mr. Lim proposed stopping flat owners from renting out their flats after they upgrade to a private property. He noted that additional taxes should be paid by permanent residents (PRs) using their flats for gain or rental.
He added that lower income families should get more grants and that the Minimum Occupancy Period (MOP) should be extended to discourage them from selling prematurely.
Mr. Lim also noted that the pricing policy of new flats should be reviewed, as the system of appraising the market and providing discounts will not slow the upward trend of flat prices.
