The government will conduct a nationwide survey to gauge the public’s perception of the real estate agency industry, according to Lee Yi Shyan, Minister of State for National Development.

To cover four areas, the survey will include questions relevant to customer expectations and satisfaction.

The Minister added that the survey results will be used by the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) in consumer education and industry development.

Speaking at the inaugural Key Executive Officer Seminar today, Mr Lee noted that the authorities have established enforcement and checks on the real estate industry.

CEA has also set up an Inspection and Compliance Section, which aims to identify infringements and unethical behaviour to ensure that real estate agents follow proper systems for supervision and management of salespersons.

Meanwhile, the real estate agency industry produced over S$1.25 billion in commissions last year.

As of September 2011, more than 33,000 property agents have registered with CEA.
