The Hindu & Hindustan Times India Property Show 2011 was held at the Singapore Expo over the weekend, showcasing the largest selection of pan-Indian properties to Singapore and the region.

The event, which marked a collaborative effort between The Hindu and The Hindustan Times in conjunction with the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (CREDAI) and the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), aimed to promote property investment opportunities to Indians in Singapore.

India has been a growing market in Singapore, as the number of non-resident Indians (NRIs) and overseas citizens of India in Singapore is estimated to reach 200,000. In addition to this, more Singapore buyers are also setting their sights on properties in India, based on a recent Q2 property sentiment survey by PropertyGuru.

The survey, which had over 2,200 respondents, found that 14 percent of those considering overseas property investments listed India as their top pick, behind Malaysia (37 percent) and ahead of Australia (10 percent).

Overall, the turnout at this year’s event was much better than last year, attributed to recent economic effervescence, especially in Tamil Nadu. Property developments on Old Mahabalipuram Road, Bangalore Highway and GST Road in Chennai, India, which are the three designated growth corridors marked for expansion, were promoted at this year's event.

These areas are expected to become popular among Indians in Singapore looking to acquire property as a long-term investment or for their families back home.

Meanwhile, more than 30 Indian developers showcased their projects in Singapore last month at the three-day Indian Property Show organised by Dubai-based Sumansa Exhibitions LLC.
